The big day has finally arrived and now that I have purchased a cozy and somewhat unattractive hoodie, I’m all set for tonight’s game. Somehow I came down here completely unaware that it might actually get cold at night – after shivering my way through the Barenaked Ladies and OAR concert on the Ft. Lauderdale beach last night, I decided it was time to plunk down some money for my own sweet Ft. Lauderdale sweatshirt to keep me warm during tonight’s game.
So yesterday was full of awesome stuff – we hit up the DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl in South Beach with VIP passes (thanks DIRECTV!) that allowed us some intimate contact/views of the celebrity players. The players had to pass through the VIP area to get between the beach “field” and their locker rooms, so it was kind of fun to ogle the celebs as they passed us. In fact, Mark Sanchez bumped his Gatorade-soaked self against my husband as I stood staring; yes, apparently I’m easily impressed with football fame (Sanchez was the winning coach for the Beach Bowl, hence the Gatorade bath). It was also pretty interesting to watch the celebs post-game to see them interact – the stars from Gossip Girl and Twilight kind of stuck together (yes, I admit I know exactly what the Gossip Girl actors look like….) and seemed to chat one another up rather than mingle with Eddie George and Rich Gannon.
The Beach Bowl game was followed by an All American Rejects concert right there on the beach and then we made our way back up to Ft. Lauderdale for the Super Bowl Saturday Night concert. We made it in time to hear most of the Barenaked Ladies and a good chunk of OAR before we needed to get back in the car and head back down to Miami for another concert and night out on the town. While in South Beach last night, apparently I walked right by Jack Del Rio and Michael Strahan (they weren’t together) without even noticing…my player radar has been low – I’m walking too much like a New Yorker (staring straight ahead, sole purpose is walking, no people-watching) down here!
In an hour or two we’ll head over to the NFL Alumni Pre-Game Party hosted by Jason Taylor and PrimeSport. It’s about half a mile from the stadium making it really easy to jaunt on over to the game – should be a really fun way to start the festivities today!
